Rysstad to Busnesgrenda (south west of Oslo)

We have seen a lot of swimming lake signs, so we must assume they are popular, even though we have only seen 2 groups of people swimming.  Our guide book tells us "do not swim in lakes marked `drinking water` "

This part of Norway appears to be particularly remote, with few signs of schools, hospitals, etc, and only a few shops.  We took the opportunity to explore a waterfall on the roadside. 2 separate falls joined as one: there were lots of different types of lichen, silver birch, and cotton grass here.

On our road, quite by chance, we came across the Vemork hydro power station, which was formerly the site of a German heavy water plant in WW2.  The allies wanted to destroy it because it could be used for making nuclear weapons.  On 27 February 1943, Norwegian saboteurs came from Britain and blew it up.  It was repaired, but then destroyed by U.S. bombers on 16 November 1943, and heavy water production then ended.  The waterfall next to the plant is 104 metres high and quite impressive.

Travelling on, we found a suitable layby for our night stop, and walked down the road intending to look at the fjord. As we approached a group of houses, we were met by a big dog.  His bark was worse than his bite, and after being called by his owner, he turned out to be a friendly fellow.  The track ended before the fjord at a clearing used for firewood processing, so we had to double back and go past the dog once more.
