Soltau, southwards, to Steinhorst (near Celle)

After leaving Soltau, we drove first to a privately owned Wolf Centre at Doeverden.  For our E11.00 entrance fee we could see wolf furs, a big display of wolves through the ages with a time line, and have a tour of the pens. Enormous enclosures had about 6 wolves in each, and the guide came to feed the wolves and explain about their persecution in the past, and natural behaviour in the wild. Several wolves are now living wild in this part of Germany, and public attitudes seem to be gradually changing towards these charismatic creatures.

After some lunch, we drove east to Munster, where there is the Panzermuseum (tank museum).Very good displays of vehicles from the earliest tanks, right through to current day vehicles developed to tackle modern situations in Iraq/Iran. There were dozens of tanks, all labelled in both German and English, and a plethora of further information in German, (but as usual, we could not read it all). The displays were extremely well laid out, and worth the E7.00 entrance fee.

As we were only by that time about an hour´s drive from Maggie´s sister in Steinhorst, we drove there, arriving a day earlier than previously arranged.
